Cuddle Up to Comfort
It really doesn't matter whether your space is large or small, trendy, formal or casual. The most important thing is that you like it and that its your favourite room in your home. Your Master Bedroom, your domain! It's where you get the opportunity to be completely you!
Of course, we don't all have the luxury of an endless budget to accomplish the beautifully laid out magazine versions, however I do have a few suggestions that can help inspire you to create the perfect retreat for you.
We all know that it's not easy to function with insufficient sleep. It's important that you are well rested, and since you will spend approximately 1/3 of your life sleeping, it's very important that you purchase the very best mattress that your budget will allow. There are many other areas that you can cut corners on but this should not be one of them.
Colour, very important to choose one that you find restful and relaxing. Your haven should feel soothing at the end of a long day and you should wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle what the world throws at you. I have known some to choose colours that leave them feeling anxious and jittery. This is not conducive to a good night's rest.
One of my favourite colours from Sherwin Williams is Krypton 6247. Its dreamy, soothing and leaves you feeling relaxed. I have used this colour in many different spaces and honestly think its perfect for a bedroom or bathroom due to its calming effect. Personally, I do not like a bedroom that is too frilly and over the top. For me, it has to be a space that makes you want to take a deep breath at the end of the day and just feel all the stress leave your body.
A second colour that I find perfect for the bedroom is Sherwin Williams Acai Haze 9132. This colour also pairs beautifully with a soft yellow or a subtle grey as you see here in our photograph. The soft palette reminds me of nature, and leaves me with a tranquilizing effect.
The other very important factor to creating the perfect oasis is to make sure that you have sufficient lighting. There may be very little wiggle room for lighting during the typical 9-5 working hours but not everyone is fortunate enough to work those hours.
However, one area where we all exert complete control is in our bedrooms. As it turns out, a few adjustments to your morning and nighttime routines can help your body sync into its ideal natural rhythm and maintain a normal sleep pattern. Anyone who has ever worked shift work will tell you that it can be difficult to maintain but not impossible. I have had many clients in this predicament and my advice is to make sure that your drapery has black out panels to help prevent the light from filtering in and disturbing your blissful sleep. Turn the phones off or down and wear ear plugs if necessary to prevent the noise from daily activity to disturb your sleep patterns.
When it comes to lighting for your bedroom my recommendation is to keep it dimly lit. If you like to read in bed then try having wall sconces on either side of your bed. It saves room on your night table and adds a warm glow to your space. Just enough if you like to read.
